MECHANICAL FRAME INTEGRATION
Fragment retention window film is often applied directly to glass to reduce fragmentation hazards. For enhanced performance, the film can also be anchored to existing window frames, significantly increasing the overall strength and safety of the glazing system. Frame anchoring helps keep glass shards and the fragment retention film within the window opening—depending on blast size—and substantially reduces the risk of glass-related injuries.
GlassLock's mechanical anchoring system has been rigorously tested to ISC/GSA Blast Security Criteria using a variety of glass types and window assemblies. In this system, the fragment retention film is applied to the glass and wrapped onto the existing window frame. The film is secured using an aggressive transfer adhesive, and a batten is bolted directly to the frame, mechanically locking both the film and glass in place.
A cosmetic cap, anodized or painted to match the window frame, is installed to conceal fasteners, battens, and film edges. A vinyl gasket is added to create a clean, finished appearance. Once installed, the system becomes an integrated part of the window assembly and is virtually invisible to building occupants.
STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE ANCHORING
In the structural adhesive anchoring system, existing window gaskets are removed or modified to allow adhesive to be extruded into the frame rebate—the gap between the glass and the frame. The fragment retention film is applied to the glass and allowed to cure. A black architectural-grade structural adhesive is then applied over the film, onto the window frame, and into the frame rebate.
This adhesive is installed in strict accordance with GSA standards to achieve the anchoring performance required to meet ISC/GSA Blast Security Criteria. The result is a high-strength, frame-bonded system that enhances glass retention without the use of mechanical fasteners.
